I plan to pick up some connectors and pins to make my own cables for use with TMCC boards. I found some made by JST which should work. I am wondering if anyone has found an alternative crimping tool that would work with these pins? The JST tool is 470 bucks!!!!

If you're talking abut custom connectors and not the Lionel standard ones, I use snapppable headers. A little heatshrink, and I have a custom connector with as many pins as I need. They come in single, dual, and triple row configurations, one for every occasion.
I have those John. These are specifically for Lionel, ERR applications with 2mm spacing. The connectors are dirt cheap but not the crimping tool. I have an assortment of tools but was wondering if anyone has found an inexpensive one that will work.

If you're looking for the specific Lionel connectors, then I suspect you're stuck with the $70 tool. Where did you get the connectors if I may ask?
