I have a Z-DC1 Transformer that operated a turntable and lights.  It was replaced by a Z-1000.

My question, with it small size and a short test track it could fit on my computer desk and be used to download files and updates?  I then would not have to disconnect the Z-1000 from my layout?

I haven't checked, are there any concerns with DC power to TIU, AIU or Remotes

It might.  I load with a medium size HO transformer, but when I do the board is out of the engine.  So I can control the load by not plugging in the 8 pin.  My fear would be on doing this with a test track and engine, you might draw more than the power supply can handle an have it quit during a load.  That would not be good.

If your PS puts out 18-20V at 20W you just at 1 amp.  .3amps for TIU, .2 amps for Board, once smoke comes on and a few lights your at 1 amp and you have not tested the motor.

I just think your safer with something over 1.5 Amps.  G
