I'm almost finished with a Twin Whistle painted diner. I'd like to do something with powders but the finish is so rough I think it might clunp up and ruin the paint job. The only thing I ever used dullcote on was plastic or metal. The pic won't show it well but the roof is like rough sawn lumber. Main concern is the roof. Could I seal it with something like Mod Podge. If it matters the paint is all acrylic.

Thanks

Dullcote is routinely used on wood as a sealer. You glue on bracing to the back of the walls then paint both sides with a base coat enamel like Rustoleunm gray primer then spray dullcote to seal. This stops the wood from warping if you decide to go to acrylics. After that you can use acrylic paints, powders etc then spray again. If you want good 'primers' on building with wood search Youtube for Jason Jenson Trains.

Primer/sealers for general painting  can be used to create a paint surface that doesn't absorb a lot of (expensive model) paint. Wood/drywall tend to suck-up a lot of paint.  I've used a Sherwin William PrepRite, ProBlock in spray cans for large wood prep.  It is also sandable.

Roof of the Roundhouse.

Another model with the finish roof material.
