Hooked up the DZ-1240 power and track power.
1. Applied 10VAC track power. No cars on track.
2. With a jumper wire, I shorted both outer rails on East and West sides. The “latch” worked, both ends. Power cycled as advertised both
East and West ends.
3. Put the caboose on track, about midway between East and West ends and monitored track power.
4. Rolled the lighted caboose into both East and West ends. NOTHING – no “latch” activation.
5. Took lighted caboose off track and put a freight car on track and repeated same test. East end worked fine. West end – NOTHING.
6. Placed freight car on track midway between East and West ends. Monitored track power. Shorted both common rails.
East end worked. West end – NOTHING.
Thought about the DZ-1000 switch machine and how the non-derailing feature worked flawlessly. Realized that the circuit is on COMMON,
nothing to do with center rail power.
The above tests tell us that the “Latching mechanism” is not isolated from the center rail, if the center rail-to-outside rail circuit is in use, the “Latching”
does not occur. The West end is totally screwed up.
Track was cleaned prior to testing.
