One of my dz machines which has been in service for several years has suddenly gone nuts. Almost every time I throw from thru to out, the switch throws, then starts slowly reversing back to the thru position. After several seconds, when the switch is about 2/3 thrown, hitting the out control again throws the switch back and stays thrown. Any ideas what might be causing this?

You may have an LED going bad. I recall some ancient thread here alluding to a bad batch of LEDs that caused flaky results. Try pulling the LEDs out of motor and see if problem ceases. Ditto for the Z1000 control box if used.
Or possibly the microswitch inside motor may be loose or going bad. Not much inside them to work on.
The switch is green. Bottom cover removed on the DZ 1000
Right throw.
Left throw.
If you are using non-derail circuitry, you need to clean the isolation gap between the trigger rail section and the rest of the outside rail. That also will continue to trip the throw.
I found the solution, but I am curious about the micro switch response. If the switch were not throwing far enough to open the switch, would the switch not continue trying to close in the same direction rather than reversing? What I found that solved the problem was an open ground circuit in the track leading up to the switch. Don't know exactly why that caused the switch to reverse, but with the ground attached , no problem; open the ground circuit, switch reverses. Will have to study more closely to figure exactly how this is happening.
