The 30-90027 station platform is kind of a neat accessory, but it has a goofy stairs arrangement.

They come off the right end at 90 deg and extend back behind the platform a considerable distance. This makes it kind of challenging to fit the thing in anywhere.

It is of course derived from the Dry Good Transfer Warehouse building. Both have bveen around since about 2002. They are both still offerred in the current RTR catalog as well.

The following pix show how I modded mine to make it handier to fit in a typical yard area.

Basically I cut the steps off the back, trimmed the railiings on the end, took out the 2" long useless horizontal walkway, and glued it all back together. Works much better on the layout.

Jus thought I's share this idea for anybody who is in the same situation.

Alan;

Unfortunately I did not think to take any before pictures.

The picture that Walter posted kind of shows how the stairs go straight back from the right end, but it doesn't really show how stupid far back they extend. I like the accessory overall, but to me the stairs looked silly.

Another odd thing is that there is all kinds of safety railings at the right end associated with the stairs, but nothing on the left end. Strange.

I looked at the warehouse buildings with the platform shown next to it. The end opposite from the stairs doesn't match up to the building and as you said, is oddly without a railing.

I liked the finished platform so much I ordered another one.

So now here is a couple of shots comparing it to the modified platform.

Needless to say I will be bashing it as well.

BTW, after bashing these will fit in a space as narrow as 3" and still clear all rolling stock.

The platform height is 1-5/8", just right for tubular track on 3/16" cork roadbed. If you need lower than this, the legs can easily be shortened.
