I have been continuing research into desperately trying to make some sense of the myriads of board wire connectors out there, who uses what, and what is compatible with what. I am kind of seeing a light at the end of the tunnel, so I put together the attached table for quick reference. It’s kind of a work in progress, and there will no doubt be updates along the way as I learn more.

Note that the crimp tools shown refer to those that I happen to have on hand. There are lots of similar tools out there and YMMV, as they say. Harbor Freight has a handy looking crimper, but I don't know the cat number for it. Most of the crimp sockets used are in the range of 18-28 AWG wire sizes.
