The holidays always are exciting and we love having the Christmas layout under the tree. This year however it will not be tucked away and idea for the year. I will be moving it to the grand children's play room for more excitement and fun in model RR building with my grandsons. Each of them has expressed interesting "working on the layout" with me.

So now on to my question. I want to replace the post war switch throws I have with newer, more rugged modern day technology. I am looking for recommendations on momentary switches for the un-coupler magnets, and center neutral switches forth O-22 turnouts. I have  box of miniature Radon Shack SPST switches for the accessories that can be run tend on and off

Look forward to hearing your recommendations.

I have not used them myself but I've seen several recommendations for this site:

For momentary power to an uncoupler, either an SPST off-(on) or SPDT on-(on).  For center-off turnout control an SPDT (on)-off-(on).  Note they have rubber caps in different colors that press on to the toggles.  Prices of between $1-2 seem about right.

Some guys like to go with two separate push-buttons rather than a center-off toggle for turnout control.  In this case use a pair of SPST off-(on).

Note the nomenclature of the parentheses () around the on to indicate it is a momentary action - as long as pressed.

Note that this vendor also has a selection of LEDs.  You did not mention if you want lighted indicators but if going for the "modern" look I'd suggest converting to LEDs instead of the stock incandescent bulbs.

The switches shown are rated for 3 Amps and 5 Amps which should be adequate for what you're talking about.

I'm not sure if these match the "style" or look-and-feel of your Radon Shack switches.  But note that the above site also has similar basic SPST off-on, or SPDT on-on switches for your accessories if you want a common style.

Thank you all for the rapid replies and great info.

Stan2004, I am OK with the more modern techie look for this layout. My total PW layout has the PW switches with incandescent bulbs for the period look. I will purchase a few of these and see how well they fit into what I am trying to do.

Again this forum is a great way to learn, share info and ideas and get things done.

thank you all.....

jeff
