Engine stopping on Gargraves Switch | O Gauge Railroading On Line Forum

When I run my Lionel 8223 Diesel in one direction over a switch it's fine, but if I turn the engine 180 it stops dead on the switch. How is that even possible??

I feel that it might have something to do with the pickups. The inside pickups are 5" apart and outside pickups are 10.5" apart.

Also - my scale GG1s, shorty GG1, a couple of steam engines, and other diesels with only two pickups and not four pickups run fine.

You are likely losing a ground connection on the outer rails. Make sure both outrails are grounded, this is usually the issue.

I would also measure the conductivity between all the pickups just to make sure the wiring hasn’t been damaged inside.

Use some conductive oil on those pickup rollers. Solved a similar problem for me.
