Hi Guys, I don't know it this is an electrical problem or a DCS problem. But I have a PS2 engine when I run it at a slow speed it hits one switch when running quite and then stops at the switch and starts up. At which point it wont move until I kill the power to the layout and start it up again.

When I turn the sound off it has a loud hum to it.

Any help would be great!

Mike, are you running the engine using DCS ?  It sounds like the engine is stalling and then coasting to a stop and restarting in conventional mode. Try pressing start up on the Remote and see if you gain control of it again without powering the layout down.

A few things can cause the engine to stall. What type of switch and what type of engine ?   It could be a roller spacing issue. Often times you may need a relay to change the polarity of an isolated rail.  I’ve found especially on diesels with multiple traction tires. The wheels don’t have enough good contact with the outside rails and will cause stalling.

Hello Mike, I had a similar problem with my switches in my Lionel command layout. The engine would stop half way through the switch. If I manually eased the engine through the switch to the other side, the lights would come back on, and the engine would start up and operate normally again. Then I remembered reading that some switches don't carry the power through the switch...and some do. My Ross switches, as manufactured, don't.  I believe Gargraves, for example, do. I'm not familiar with MTH.

My only other thought would be possibly a short somewhere between rails in the switch ...or like Dave mentioned, loss of contact with wheels or rollers as the engine passes through the switch.

Just a thought!
