I'm scratch building a F40PH Amtrak engine in G scale. Again I'm on the hunt to capture the details as best that I can. I've been looking at online photos for at least a week now. I can't find close up pictures of the air brake rigging from the air tanks on the engine. I would like to detail the lines and other stuff that I see under these engines. I'm getting good help on another forum from members. I see a picture of another's scratch build that even has these details. I would just like to know better what I am modeling exactly.

On a long shot, does anyone have close up pictures of the middle (sides) of these engines that I could see?

I've looked at about every picture on Hebner's and most on Railroad picture archives .net

I did find some nice info on the web to help me understand the changes that I see were made to the engine over the years.

I have several books of engines by Brian Solomon and others. They don't go into detail of these engines very much. Some of the best pictures of these that I can find on the web are very old and from a distance using older cameras.

I think the details are going to depend on your road number.  There are differences between the various Amtrak units depending on when they were ordered.  (Phases?) Plus one has to take into account the commute and VIA orders of the F40PH.

Yes, that's always a problem for me. I have to finalize what exact prototype (even the road number) I'm going to copy.

I thought you were taking an existing G scale Great Trains F40PH and modifying it??

Yes Sir, you are correct. I have it posted here, on this forum too. I want to make it much better detailed. I already made it 2 1/2" longer than it came to me.

I'm looking at the air line for instance, and I see what I believe might be a water separator? It's tough to make a copy of something, when you don't even know what it is.
