I have a WBB FA 1, always a great runner. Yesterday I took my eye off it and several cars broke loose and the engine took off, before I could stop it, BAM the engine rams the caboose, I do catch them before they fall to the concrete floor.

PROBLEM!!

I put the engine back on the track and after 6-10 seconds the transformer kicks off, (don't know the correct term but the power goes off).  There is power on all 43 feet of track, I checked it with the engine off the track. Put the engine back on add power and  the power shuts down.

What do I look for to try to solve this problem?

Thanks

Brent

See if anything else is off the track, or something fell onto the track.

See if the coupler thumbtack is out of position and touching the center rail.

Take your time and look closely at everything on the bottom.

Take everything off the track and see if the problem with the transformer still exists. If so, something is on the track, like a black screw that is hard to see.

After checking the track and the externals of the loco, if you still have a problem, then something may have happened inside the loco. Take off the shell and look for any loose wires. Look at the circuit boards inside for signs of damage; the derailment may have damaged the motor or board(s). Check the motor by disconnecting the wires to it, and by applying power from a 9 volt battery to the motor terminals. It should run. If the motor runs, and the loco still shorts out, the electronics smoked.
