Hi All,
I am weathering some of my boxcars and am wondering if you have a successful technique for fading lettering, particularly white lettering.
I would also like to fade the roofs of the cars with more than just one color.
Any suggestions?

I have had great luck with PanPastels:

This is my current go to choice for weathering. The girders in the photo below were weathered with them:
John; the girder looks great.
Even though this is demonstrated on N scale equipment, the oil paint brush fade would work on O gauge also.

I have some ultra high grit sanding sticks (2000) that I can use on lettering that will not remove it but 'fade' it by thinning the tampo. The Magic Eraser may do the same thing.

This is how I do it, although I use 1500 grit.
