You can buy Lionel smoke units for $30 MSRP, they'd be plenty for a diner. No reason to spend $60 on this project.

And, if you already have a smoke unit with a bad board, Bill will sell you the PCB alone for about $17.00. I bought one for my recent Atlas"O" diesel upgrade from EOB and it screws right on the original Atlas"O"/TAS bowl.
