A close friend created a wonderful On30 layout in his retirement years that was featured in a narrow gauge magazine.  Sadly, he is now in a memory unit....  His wife just asked me to take down his layout as she needs to move to a smaller unit in their retirement community.

Here's an overview of the layout:

All,

Thanks for your kind words.  Tony loved to scratch build structures. Most are really interesting. The dismantling will be a slow process.  I will drive from Williamsburg to Richmond once a week to work on it.   His wife wants as much of the layout to be given to local modelers.

Another friend of Tony's is involved with a small train museum and sections will go there.  He is going to take the harbor area for his On30 layout. Tony hand carved the boat hulls.  He also built some beautiful ship models which will stay in the family.

I'm taking the sawmill section.  That's as far as we've gotten.  I will be there tomorrow, loosening buildings and packing up tools and parts.  Regrettably, he secured the buildings to the layout with contact cement instead of white glue...

Here are some photos of the harbor before the water was poured:

I was fortunate to have had the opportunity to see Tony's layout, as well as his many other railroad collectables from his past, while they lived in Mathews.  His creations were truly amazing!  I didn't get to see his new layout after they moved to Richmond, so really appreciate your sharing the pictures.  Glad that some of his works might find future layouts.  Please let me know.
