I've always enjoyed driving through the farm lands of W VA, PA and MD and seeing the barns, houses and out buildings. I have a 2' X 3' section on my layout where I'd love to put a farm with dairy cows and all the buildings. I'm sort of leaning towards an Amish theme. I'd love to see some pics of your farm scenes. Thanks in advance.

Here is a Colorado Front Range 1940's/1950's farm I put together for our sectional layout

Alive like home was. The farm is a great place. Thanks RonH I hope these inspire Wild Mary.
TR18 that's really nice! Thank you for sharing
come on guys post your farms!
This is what inspired me to make a farm, Chuck of the SLICK-X group from Denver made this.
And you can see more of it here:

Grew up in the city, so this is my childhood memory of a dinner call on the farm:
What, me worry?
p.s. The farm scenery is very impressive.
I am speechless at how good you are Eric! That scene with the house ,barn, field work is terrific plus the cleanest two pigs in America today!! LOL

Wigville, very nice farm, I m impressed with all of the talent that is shown. Looking at the pond one would want to take a dip.
More like a WW2 Victory Garden than anything else, but it technically is a farm, I guess:
400+ corn stalks went into that field. It's not very large but it does seem to have the right density that a corn field usually has.
I'll likely be putting in a cattle fenced-in area adjacent to this soon, and a large tree in the open space between the farm house and the corn field, as a vision break for the trains.
RonH if you look behind the boat there is a man along the bank in the water and his close are on the bank behind him .

Here is my compact 027 gauge farm. You can tell it is a farm by the animals, outhouse, barn with "See Rock City" sign, school bus parked in front, and microwave tower for extra income.

As they used to say back in the day, "You flatter me, Sir!"
Your work is nothing short of breathtaking and is some of the best model RR scene work that I've ever seen anywhere. And I'm sure I'm not alone in that opinion!
Maybe not a farm but that backyard garden....
Erik,
I'm a dairy farmer and you have it nailed! I have yet to work on my scene, but I doubt I can equal yours. It is just superb.
Man, I wish I could grow cabbages like you guys have. I'd be the Kraut King of Washington county. Unfortunately, conditions here aren't ideal for broccoli and cauliflower.
Erik - In this part of the country it wouldn't be out of place to have the lady of the house in the corner of the garden beating off a rattlesnake with a hoe. It does happen more than a person likes to admit.
Snakes in the farm... I have no big fears of snakes, but I'm no fan of being bitten by them! I live in the Pac NW now and there is no snake issues here. You rarely see the tiny little garter snakes, and that's it.
I really wish someone would make O scale tobacco plants, as that's the main cash crop where my layout takes place.
Doctor Firefly that is always such a treat to behold. Your house and garden is masterpiece
WOW!! Thanks for all the wonderful pics. You folks have given me plenty of excellent ideas to work with.

Your welcome Mary glad you enjoyed them I did too. Many talented folks on OGR.
This is an Ertl farm set, farm toy set, I was given several years ago, My wife painted/dry brushed the building. Generally a bit small, would probably work better S- scale. Different pieces are 1/43, 1/48, 1/50. The garden can be purchased , many of the garden pieces were done with polymer clay, my oldest daughter has done beads as a hobby, using clay. The chicken coop is K-Line.
Most of what you see can be purchased from Forum sponsor Scenic Express.

Some of ours were. Heck, my mom took them to town with her in the car.
That is a pretty true to life chicken coop. K-line, eh? Never seen one before this.

Thank you John. My family going as far back as Sweden we are still in farming.
That is a nice chicken coop, I also have one. I scratch built one to match the coop found on a farm near Longmont. The barn is also scratch built.
Just thinking, I enjoy these farm scenes very much, and I think several months ago on this forum there was a great thread about farm scenes, realism etc! if you like farms on the layout it may be worth checking out!

Hey Guys, Without question I believe the quality of these scenes are the finest postings to date on our forum. WOW! The quality of O-Scale modeling (scenery) has certainly advanced in the past 10 years. We must be sure Frank Mullen sees this thread. Where can it go from here? Perhaps "perfection" would be the next level. My hat is off to you all!
