For Christmas last year I got my Son and Granddaughter a Polar Express Set.  This year I am thinking about adding an accessory.  Crossing gate or the classic gateman.  I am not too familiar with Fast Track.  I myself run on old school tubular track and have many control rail sections on my layout for signals.  Can a standard section of fast track be converted to a control rail track section with insulated pins ? - Or is  it necessary to buy the Fast Track Accessory Activator #6-81317 ?    Seams silly to me to have to buy a extra track section when the plastic road bed isolates the outside rails. I understand that each track section has a connector between outside rails that can be easily removed. Are there fiber pins for Fast Track like the fiber pins for tubular track ? Could I make a control rail just by cutting the rail with a cut-off disk with a rotary tool ?

Steve,

The simplest way is to cut the rail if you are ok with it. you do have to remove the connecting bars between the cuts. This allows you to make it as long as you want, also. I have even started on a curve if necessary. you can remove the pins, but you have to pry up the rail and sometimes it is hard to get it back. Good luck!
