Don't think so, unless you could figure out a way to immobilize the switchstand handle. They're designed to spring aside if a train runs against the points, which minimizes derailment issues.

I've never yet had a train pick the points when heading into a facing switch (unlike the old O27 manual switches...), so I'd think that the factory design would be the best option for most situations.

What kind of issue are you trying to solve?

You could just remove the operating lever.  They are designed to be removable, so that you can place them on either side. So you could just take it off, and not put it back on. You will have a gap in the ballast then though. And as EricF pointed out, the switch could still be thrown due to the anti-derailing feature (Or the mighty 'finger from the sky' could operate it.)

With the handle removed, the points are free to be moved manually with fingers or by a train moving across the points in a trailing direction. With the handle installed, the points won't move at all if the handle could be fixed in place, because the linkage would be "locked". It would depend on your needs for what's best.

Rick,

I took the bottom plate off mine and put a shim in a place where it essentially "jammed" the switch in one position. (forgot exactly where I put the shim, but it was pretty easy to find a spot) Left the handle in place.  Nothing shows from on top.

I wanted to add the track crew to my layout, but wanted to avoid a possible life-threatening accident!
