While visiting a hobby shop today a customer broght in 3 sections of 10'' straight Fastrack with melted ends. He actually had burned his fingers on the rail while removing it from the layout. Upon inspection, the rail pins were very loose in the rail which could cause a arc and heat the part up. This is a first for owner of the shop and he replaced the sections free of charge. So if you are using Lionel Fastrack, feel the joints of your layout for excessive heat or evidence of arcing or sparking and melted roadbed.

I suspect there is probably more to the story, I run two 180w bricks to my layout, and I've run across a loose pin here or there but never had anything get hot or melt the roadbed. The worst case involved a short 1 3/8" section with loose pins that lost power when the loco passed over it but thats it. I'm guessing there may be a loose pin somewhere on my layout that I might have missed at the beginning, no problems though.
