What are your favorite kit brands? I'm looking to add some scenery to my layout and so far I've purchased a couple of K-Line kits and been bitterly disappointed with them. I'm not looking for ultra realistic kits but would like something on par with a typical model airplane or tank kit from the likes of Tamiya or Testors. The two K-Line kits I've bought are not very detailed and worse yet are wildly out of scale with each other. I have a pre-built MTH passenger station that is nicely detailed and seems to be accurately scaled. Only problem is MTH buildings come pre-built and where's the fun in that?

There are a lot of different kits out there, and the assembly methods vary widely....I

buy what appeals to me in appearance...that is what is important. However, to get up

to speed, some of those cited above are easier to build than others.  But even the

assembled ones, including Plasticville,  can be repainted, modified, kitbashed, to make something unique to your tastes.

I really like Ameritown (the OGR buildings) but seldom build them exactly as instructed - I most bash/modify them.  they are exacellent both as bits built exactly as, or as fodder for bashing/making just store fronts, etc.

I also have found some Lionel kits to be quite good, too. Again, maybe lightly bashing them/panting and added a bit of detail - they look like models, not toys.
