This started as a foam-core "mock-up" to get an idea of how it would look and fit. I started covering a little of it with Clever models paper to make it a little more realistic. Well, I couldn't stop! I have now decided to use the building with the paper covering. I still have to add the caps the brick walls, steps to front door and lights. I am going to place trees at the rear of the building to cover the seam in the clapboard siding. The loading dock will be replaced with wood with a skim coat of drywall mud to resemble concrete. The building will be filled with baled cotton and a forklift. Sorry about the photos on the truck hood but I am about 80 miles from the spot it will occupy on the layout.

That looks fantastic.

I have 2 questions you could probably help with.  I have checked to see what type of foam board is best to use and come up with various answers. I am also wondering what type of adhesive you used to apply the card stock.

i really want to try my hand on something like this.

Thanks,

Ed

Cesar, Thank you!

T8, Printed them on my home printer.

Ed, I started with spray adhesive but I did not like it, too much overspray mess. I used some double-sided tape but mostly Elmers wood glue spread thin with my finger on both surfaces. Forget ACC, it does not work with the foam. I used some Elmers glue sticks is a few places too. I am going to spray the whole thing with Krylon acrylic clear when finished. The foam core is from Walmart.

Malcolm....

Very nice!  I have used this same technique to build retaining walls and other structures on my layout and it really works well.  You have done a great job capturing the type of building that many of us here in the south have seen in "cotton towns".  The brick you chose looks perfect and the interior wood planking on the walls reminds me of the old compress in Trumann Arkansas....

Mack, Have calculated total cost, but the Clever downloads are $1.99 each. The foamboard is from the stationary section in Walmart. I found some at Dollar Tree over the weekend and it is a little thinner, I will try it on the next project.

Alan,

Thank you. My cousins and I used to play under the one in Tylertown when I was a kid, the town creek ran under it. I remember some big ole moccasins under there. It seems crazy now that we did that as kids.

Be careful with the Dollar Tree foamboard, the backing tends to want to separate from the foam. I have several sheets of it.
