Finally aTrain Meet

Steve - Congratulations on co - producing this safe and looks like fun train meet!

Glad to see someone is having a gathering.....it’s dead in Florida.....Haven’t had one all year......the ones I go to are Inclosed buildings........I’m a new member and appreciate all the helpful responses I’ve received from members......

With the weather warming up, next months meet will start about 7am. There is a bonus, on the other side of the parking lot, there is a car show going on.

This is something we hope to do in September at Pine Creek RR at Allaire State Park in Wall, NJ. Our club sets up a few layouts under a large tent for the weekend and we run trains for all the attendees who visit their narrow gauge railroad. After that, there are no scheduled indoor train meets in NJ until at least November. Bummer with no shows for now. 

Steve, I think your open air, flea market style train meet with masks and social distancing is a great idea. Arnold

My kind of FUN!! We've been pondering doing the same in Central Arkansas in the Spring,Fall and Winter (Mild) months. A typical Arkansas Summer is scorching hot and awfully humid but there's certainly a lot of interest in doing a tailgate swap meet in the cooler months. We already have a couple of safe and suitable places picked out,we just need to set some dates.

AWESOME!!! AWESOME!!! AWESOME!!!!  Absolutely love this!!!! Great way to get back to 'normal' while following the right protocol. Great job!!!  If I lived closer I would have attended to sure. Thumb up folks!!!!

We will do it again on 7/25, but start at 7am. The guys want to beat the summer heat. I’m not a morning person, but I’ll be there.

GLAD you had a SAFE and FUN meet! 

Great to see and hear about it.  I hope everyone had fun.

We have 4 indoor train shows (that I know about) here in South Florida, two in the early part of the year (Feb/Mar) and two in the late part of the year (Sep/Oct).  The March one got cancelled because of COVID-19.  Here's hoping that the Fall ones will be able to go forward.

Relief from housebound!

A big thank you to Steve and everyone else. I admit being the TTOS Southern Pacific Division President I did not sleep well the nights before trying to make sure we could keep everyone safe. My wife Denyse Meyer who is a nurse and two time breast cancer survivor did not take crap from anyone. She and Robin did temperature checks and got masks to those who were not wearing them. Should they refuse they were told to leave and a few outsiders did. 

Best part we got out and had fun. Trains and great friends. A wonderful day it was!

So Cool! Trains and cars, two of my favorite things! 

Ted, Greenberg has the Edison show in August scheduled. Hope it comes off, I want to come back to NJ to do it and visit family and friends.

It would be good to see some train shows come back, give us some sense of normalcy.

I've talked to Craig about setting up the first one at the Bald Knob Depot sometime this fall. We could easily have the vendors set up in the parking lot. Looking at twice a year there and also having one in the Little Rock area. There's a couple of suitable places in Sherwood that would work as well.

Unfortunately for me, the masks drive me crazy.    They itch, get wet, get hot and what not and make it hard for me to breath and fog up my glasses.   I cannot imagine wearing one for 3-4 hours for a train meet even if I would love the meet.     I do it for groceries because I have not figure out how to get along without eating, but so far I have found it palatable to do just for the fun of it.   

Besides, there would probably be very little 2 rail there anyway.

No train shows around me yet. I know there is a pretty busy toy show set for this weekend, so somebody has the confidence to go out and mingle. Greenberg still has the August show in Edison scheduled, but I don’t know that I will risk it. I’m not a real worrier, but it seems the closer to NYC you get, the worse it gets, so I might just keep waiting for something down here in South Jersey.

The meet is planned for 7/25, from 7-10. We meet in the Dukes parking lot on the corner of Lakeview and Orangethorpe. We set up against the retaining wall for the Lakeview overpass. The car show will be going on on the other side of the lot by Kenny’s Donuts.
Please wear a mask to comply with existing criteria.
Meet is subject to change depending on changes from the governor.

You don't have to wear a "mask".  What is required (at least in MA) is a face covering when close to others.  I wear a bandana around my neck and pull it up when near someone else or when I walk into a store or office.

Fortunately, access to our site will be along one path where we can speak with anyone not so prepared.

One practice that I follow is to try to stand cross-wind relative to whom I'm speaking with so that that whatever breeze there is provides an effective air barrier.

They still fog with a bandanna. I have a pair of sports/safety glasses that seal my nose & cheeks well, like goggles which I wear outside the home. (prescription)  ... flip it. Use nose metal to create a chin vent facing dwn or back at the neck.

Also sport spec. has a forehead pad to keep debris from falling into the eyes. and temple glass. Great for cutting and grinding ...(debris hit that big forehead and fall in  and some debris bounce off the lens into eyes with regular glasses)

NJ governor is allowing up to 500 people in an indoor facility now starting on Monday. Still not enough to have that show. We did the show on February 29-March 1 and there had to be about 9,000 people there for the 2 days. This was just 2 weeks before New Jersey was put on lockdown. There had to be the virus spreading about there. I would hope we can get back to normalcy in the next year to have train shows, etc.
