Here is a circuit for a flashing LED that uses track voltage. A flash occurs about every 1.6 seconds from D5. This particular circuit is used to operate the blinking red light in the back of streamliner observation cars such as the Cedar Rapids Skytop.
By changing the color of the LED, this circuit lends itself to other uses such as:
>Spark simulation for tracks used by electric trains such as El and subway (blue LED);
>End of train device for freight trains (red LED);
>Emergency vehicles (red/blue/green LED);
>Atop high towers and structures to warn approaching aircraft (red LED);
>Traffic stop signal (red), and traffic caution signal (amber).
Substitute other size LEDs like 3mm, 5mm and 10mm.
