Flyer 2116 signal

Ive seen this signal with 2 different versions on ebay. im assuming the round base with bell mounted @ lite early and the bell mounted @the square base late. Then theres the curious looking metal strip with hooks im assuming is flyers activation strip which if it is. Does it work off pressure like lionels 153c

The strip is snapped in place on the track between the center rail and butting against an outside rail. It then acts as the connection between 'ground' and the crossing signal when the car and engine wheels run on top of it.
