If you have a reversing voltage source on the board, these diodes could be installed so that Forward has one set of lights, Rear off. And Reverse has the other set of lights, Forward off.
Bi-color directional lights on my Weaver E8 were wired that way. Note this is an EOB upgrade.

Wiring diagram.  Someone with more expertise than I needs to discuss modification for the ditch light adds to an MTH unit.

A Weaver EOB upgrade to an early Atlas Dash 8 had the unit returned with the Ditch lights disconnected/no plug-in on the board for them.   I did a similar hook-up from track power/with some Atlas email instructions. Marker lights were also left disconnected.  Original Board was an early SAW GenII board.

Wouldn't it depend on the soundfile for PS-2.  I thought I saw a diesel that used it for a rear set of lights.  Don't know if they flashed though.  Some models use one bulb per ditch pin to power the forward ditch lights.  Other models use a double bulb out of one of the pins for the Fwd ditch light leaving Ditch 2 available.  The sound profile would dictate how Ditch 2 would operate (Steady for Number boards or directional).  I would imagine it would have to be one of the premier diesels if it had front and back ditch lights.  You can always turn ditch lights on using the remote, but both sets would be on and flash with horn.  G
