NO WIRE TO TRACKS A very good thread recently done on Battery Power. It also references Lithium Polymer batteries used in Model Air Planes. (2) pages on the Electrical Forum.
A lot of important information about current battery technology and safety issues.
Here's a link to the Large Scale Central's, Power & Sound sub-forum.
I'm certain that if you peruse it, you'll find many options for going over to battery power .

I'm strictly analog track power myself, but it is nice to know what's available if sometime in the future I want to convert one of my L.S. Locomotives over to battery power & RC control.

Thanks folks. I will look further into it but a rough estimate I saw on one of the links posted would be about $100 for all the loco electronics and about another 100 bucks for the RC remote/controller.
I'll keep poking around to get more accurate numbers.
Rayman is an excellent source for MTH One Gauge.
I have converted my MTH One Gauge Big Boy and VO1000 to battery with tiu in box car.
Very happy with run times and DCS range.
