What application would I use stainless steel vs. tinplate track for a layout?

Stainless Outside - Garden RR
Also if you have no magne traction engines and want to avoid rusty rails.

Tinplate is solderable, something to consider. While you can solder stainless, it takes special flux and it a whole lot harder to make good connections. Tinplate is also cheaper.
I'm not worried about rust, that's what climate control is for.
my indoor layouts use the tinplate phantom rail gargraves track. works fine on the basement layout for many years.
Good points John... although it seems there are a lot of "Forumers" that don't solder...(?)

I know many don't solder, but if you want to solder to it, stainless is generally a PITA.
I run a lot of post war locos with Magne Traction" so GG Tinplate is pretty much a must for me.
