Yesterday my wife and I rode the Georgetown Loop Railroad which I always enjoy because it has wonderful scenery, history, and my favorite Shay locomotives.  It's also a win-win because my wife loves to shop in Georgetown.  She often says, "Do you want to go and ride the Georgetown Loop Railroad?", which translates to, "I want to go shopping in Georgetown!"

There isn't much shopping for guys except "Railroad Art by Scotty".  There are a few good railroad books in the two railroad gift shops and at the Georgetown visitors center.

Women love the shopping there.  One of my wife's favorite clothing stores is there.  I sit on one of the "husband benches" or take train pictures at the Devil's Gate station while she's shopping.  We then get ice cream and go home.

One year, when she was home visiting her mother, I hiked up the Argentine Central grade which is near the Silver Plume station.

Colorado is a must see for narrow gauge steam. My wife and I have ridden the Loop and the Durango & Silverton in the past. We just returned from the west this past week, having ridden the Combres and Toltec (originally the same branch as the D&S).  What a first class outfit, excellent hosts and well informed docents plus the scenery including wildlife is spectacular.  Every railfan should put these three railroads on their bucket list.

I have spent exactly one day in the Rockies in my life, but in that day I saw Georgetown Loop.  I went to a class for work in Denver in 2000.  We had to fly in a full day early, so we went to Mt Evans that day and stopped by Georgetown Loop.  The train was running at the time, and we got to watch the last run.  I would like to go back to Colorado.  Maybe when we retire.
