O scale model of the GEX 40005 well hole depressed center flatcar. This is one of my favorites.
The original GEX 40005 is a 12 axle railcar that has a load limit of 733,000 pounds. The prototype depressed center flatcar has a "well hole" which allows for mounting tall oversize loads. This O scale model railcar has 12 axles with a scale length of 88 feet over the couplers. The model is 22 inches long over the couplers. The depressed center "well hole" portion of the model is a scale 34 feet long. An O scale model transformer load mounts in the "well hole" of the flatcar.
This depressed center open-well flat car is owned by General Electric and was built by Thrall in December of 1963.
