What is a practical rail head to ceiling minimum measurement for GG-1 w/ functioning pans for use in subway construction.
Will be mounting N scale rail directly on the tunnel ceiling. Thank you.

Dear Tom, I will contact Drew McCann who is the master of CVMRR PRR wire installation for the answer and perhaps he will reply on the forum himself. Drew has a neat little gadget which incorporates a standard O scale truck and a wood dowel with a cutout which the catenary wire rests to the proper height. I do know Drew is using HO code 100 rail for tunnel and other hidden areas as I think the code 40 N scale rail may not be thick enough. We also found fellow O scalers were kind enough to donate the HO rail to the Cherry Valley.
You were missed on Saturday as Strasburg !!!! Regards, John
John ... you should have said something at York! I have a few scale miles of code 83 HO that I left out in the sun too long and now I just have the rail.
Dear Jon, who says we don't like our How Ordinary little brothers!!!! We use their rail in the most useful ways!!! We got to get you to the CV club and run one of your gazzilion GG1's. John
I am now the proud owner of four Sunset E7s in PRR too. All Tuscan, two single stripe, two five stripe. I'm very pleased with the result. Need to find a way to get them all out your way along with a GG1 and my growing fleet of two rail PRR heavyweights for a good run session!
John, Thank you, sorry I was pre-empted. Heard it was a great event. Will look forward to Drew's response.
Johnathan, If Cherry Valley does not need all your code 83 rail my client may be needing about 200' for staging catenary. Also, what have you found to be the practical minimum rail to wire clearance? tt
I'll measure tonight, and let you guys know.
4 7/8" is lowest clearance on my lower level (500' running) Most 5"
Believe PRR set standards at 22 feet (5 1/2")
Pans are at almost lockdown position in Hudson River tunnels where tracks were lowered to allow catenary after origional electrfication with 3rd rail.
HO gauge track is best for catenary, Anything smaller would be too thin.
enjoy
