GGD Coaling Tower

Great improvements. I especially like the enhanced bolt detail.

Thanks Jon.  They were the most time consuming detail.  I drilled each one in with a .026 bit and then applied cement to the bolt shaft and inserted them with a tweezer.   It was very rewarding when I sat back and wiped my brow when I was done.

 

 

Great job! I've always liked that tower right out of the box, and your upgrades made it even better. Two thumbs up!

I have the same tower, which I think is the best on the market, and I was wondering if you might stop bye and do some weathering on mine....  Great job...  LOL

 Like the extra covered stall you added onto yours.   Nice touch!  Haven't had much requests for weathering  house calls lately. Good idea, though!.    LOL

Patrick I have the same tower but have added nothing nothing like your excellent detail work.

Nice work Patrick. I definitely want to copy the plaster casting footings. I hunted hard for that tower and finally got it from another member new. It's just sitting there now waiting for me to get to that area of my rebuild for finishing touches and detailing.

Thanks to all.  Dewey, I see both you and Woods have that extra delivery stall behind the coal elevator.  Did you construct that?  I like look it gives the Tower itself.  Makes it look more active.

Its called the "Dump House"--got it from Harry Hieke who weathered and decorated my tower and water tower.

Thanks Dewey.  Knew it looked somewhat familiar.  Harry did a nice job of weathering the tower.

It takes an artistic eye and real talent to produce something so life-like.  Tremendous job, you have to be so proud of what you've done.  I love it !!!!!!!!!!

Thanks so much Dave and Passenger Train Collector!  I love detailing to the max. I did that when I was younger, my Dad would buy me a model every now and then and I just had to add those extra details.   I guess that means my actual layout will be a work-in-progress for a long time coming...

Super detailing of the GGD tower!! I have one but have not had a chance to detail other than adding a few Arttista figures and did buy a detailed footing, resin cast, for the leading edge which I purchased from someone i York, I believe Harry Heike. really nice detailing

Its both fun and satisfying work to make a model almost come alive.  Yes, I believe Harry casts the footings for the GGD Tower.  His footings are really nice.

Douglas, I don't have a clue when these will hit the shore. I'm happy just knowing that GGD is running them again. Perhaps I can have it shipped directly to Patrick so he can perform his magic on it.

That weathering is really nice, and great that GGD is rerunning this...no price yet?  I

think I just need a one chute one for this short line, and, since colaling towers have

been mentioned a couple of times in recent postings, I have been trying to find a

Kalmbach?? book I have on coaling towers, but can't find it.

The price (mentioned in the information Jon copied above from the GGD web site) is $249.95.

 

 

Lionel did an extra building for it's coaling tower. Not sure what the item no. is, but could be a starting point for someone to add an extra stall (they also did the small office building - these have been weathered). These are the older versions - the newer coaling tower model has lights, and the extra building has lights as well.
