For some reason - I have no idea why - I liked crafting these two alleyways (urban "backyard" spaces?) very much. Do you have such places on your layout?

I do not, but yours are so believable - just like all your scenery. I like 'em!
Frank, that is simply outstanding !!!!!!!

Frank; you are the master when it comes to scenery.
Hi Frank - Nice job on the alley details.

"Got alleys?"
When I saw the title of the thread, I immediately pictured bowling alleys (that's what they were called before lanes). I was going to refer you to Wood who has a 1 to 1 and the model.
Anyway, nice thread and photos, Frank.
All alleys are interesting.
They are for service, some cases for access to other entrance, meters, trash, etc.
a humid dark place, mostly with smell of cocking (residential) and mysteriously striking.
You did a nice representation, Frank!
Andre.
My small layout has multiple alleys. Much more fun to model than a street, and it seems most train track is on the backside of buildings in real life, which is where the alley is.
Great looking alleys and the details are incredible! Terry

Those alleyways I showed you are...
...through and behind here...
..and in here....

I have often thought about allies for my out and yet to be built lay-outs as well as seeing the back side of buildings that would be in the same block but facing the next street back. To save space I didn't have them. Most modules I see are made to view from one side (the front) One thing I liked about the Flower City module group theirs seemed to be built to be viewed from both sides. One thing that bothered one of my moduler train buddies was most module groups don't cover up the back space under their modules and that became an eye sure plus an attraction for stealing. Sorry I went off on another rabbit trail.
The allies presented here are first rate, thanks for the inspiration.
Moonson,
Your rivet counting has reached critical mass, great job!

You have a unique ability to portray life like scenes which no one else can duplicate. I enjoy your scenes that cannot be matched by any one else. I wish I had your talent.

Great work Frank!
Yes
Entire modules are modeled the way one would see it riding in trains.
Got alley cats too.
Just a few photos -
Thank you, SIRT, and your vignettes sure look good and realistic. Thanks for adding those views of your skilled work, here, so we can get ideas from you and from each other (my intention with this thread.)
Amazing, Frank, just amazing.
And SIRT, pretty impressive as well. Love the cats.
I do not have any alleys yet. Heck, I've barely got any buildings . But I do have a seedy back yard planned for a seedy hotel that overlooks the tracks. As the locomotive passes the back of the hotel and its headlight sweeps the sordid building, who knows what the engineer and fireman will see?

Hi Moonson, your a true artist.

Hey, Redball342, how about these for seeing beyond the front of scenes and buildings ....
I have never created a scene that was not fully fleshed-out in all directions. It wouldn't even occur to me to do just a front.

Your work is so good and realistic, wish I could see the the possibilities like you. By the way where did your old time figures come from? I would like to put a drive in movie complex on the lay-out but for it to be used during the daytime for a classic car show and have some of the car owners in 20's-40's dress. The thought is in the dark with a movie showing people will not be drawn to the fact the age of the cars.

Frank, Blueline, and SIRT, thanks for sharing. Bookmarked for ideas to use. Great thread.

Thanks for saying so, Bill Webb. That was exactly my intention in initiating this thread, a collegial sharing of ideas and a way for me to learn some approaches I had not thought of myself.

Here is a view of an alleyway, unrefined as yet at the time of the photo, but a place I allowed myself plenty of room to develop places and details behind the front-streets. I like visitors to have to work a little to catch a view of everything.

Most all of my figures, aside from the Artista and Preiser ones we all know and use, have come from one source:

And Thank you, very much, for what you said here about my modeling.
Moonson your modeling is amazing!
Hi Moonson, your a true artist.
gg1man, That's a really nice thing to say. I appreciate your making the effort to say so, and I appreciate the generous comment itself. Thank you.
Here's a short alley, a dead-end, but still somewhere I felt something could be said. I don't surrender 1 sq. inch to emptiness.
