Heard an interesting story this morning at men’s Bible study about sheep, locally. Forty-to-fifty years ago the local sheep raisers in Randolph Co (WV) and surrounding areas would have a mass sheep-shearing in the spring. The resultant wool would be weighed-out , bagged & stuffed into a boxcar here on the WM Ry in Elkins, WV. The raw wool was shipped-out in giant burlap bags. Small kids were deployed to climb in these bags & compress the wool, which was then packed into a boxcar. I was told the net cargo weights were about 40,000 lbs. ! I’ll ask around for some pictures, if they exist….
