Hello OGR Forum, with York a matter of days away, I'm hoping a lot of the membership are monitoring the forum and will see this thread.  Unfortunately, I got back into O Gauge Trains too late, and my layout is being built as we speak with Lionel and not MTH Power equipment at this time.  I didn't know of the MTH NS OCS until it was too late.  I was able to pick up the Williams by Bachmann NS OCS train and two "B" cars to form an ABBA setup but obviously they're not MTH.  They run effortlessly so I am happy with that however appearance wise they don't have all of the Grab Irons that the MTH model has.  I'm going to upgrade them with a TMCC ERR kit, and would like to add the yellow grab irons to them and down the road either a fantasy passenger paint scheme or the prototypical NS OCS passenger cars.  Are there any recommendations on what size grab irons that I could use, drill bits or techniques to apply the grab irons to the F Units.  I've also attached two photos of the Bachmann and MTH versions to illustrate what I'm talking about.  Thanks for everything and hopefully I'll see y'all at York next week - MARSHELANGELO

Greg:

The real NS executive units do not have grab irons on their noses.  The doors were sealed as a safety measure so grab irons are not necessary.  Your Williams units are actually prototypical whereas the MTH units are not.

If you are determined to have grab irons anyhow, any Lionel parts dealer should have a set of these you can paint and install yourself.  The nose grabs on Williams F3's are more or less identical to those on Postwar Lionel F3's.

I did that several years ago to a set of Williams F7's.
