I have always found that the range of colors available in spray cans is very limited. I have always found mixing my own colors from craft acrylic and using a spray bottle was a reasonable way to go. Workable, but very uneven coverage and difficult to keep the spray pattern even. Recently, while looking for workable spray colors, I came upon a great sprayer called the PREVAL SPRAY SYSTEM. The unit consists of an aerosol can with a screw cap on the bottom and a tube with a filter on the end protruding from the can. A mixing jar is provided which screws into the cap, submersing the tube and filter into the mixed paint. The spray is as smooth and even as a commercial spray can, but the color choices are limited only to your imagination. It will spray many types of paint thinned properly per the instructions for the sprayer. I tested mine by mixing a dark green acrylic to match the foliage on my supertrees. I sprayed the trees to add depth to the tree color and to enhance the applied foliage. Great results.
I got the complete spray system and an extra pressurized canister unit for a little over $10.00. Haven't used up a canister yet so I don't know how much coverage is available from a can.
The system is by Chicago Aerosol. You can check it out at www.youtube.com/prevalspraygun. I found mine at a PP&G paint store.
Hope some of you find this useful.
