Fellas,

I have heard that VGN and N/W operated H21's. Can anyone confirm and offer a webpage with appropriate car numbers?

I have heard the same thing. I would guess that the numbers Atlas O used were accurate. I do not know of any website, but there might an N&W/VIRG historical society site.

The N&W leased 1,500 PRR H21 hoppers in Dec. 1951 and returned all by July 1952. There is no varification of the VGN leasing the PRR H21 hoppers that I know of. There are photos of the PRR H21 hoppers as Atlas has produced in the N&W scheme, but no such photos of VGN leased hoppers.

In 1958 the PRR did lease 2,000 of the N&W H2A hoppers in the series 10,000-11,999. PRR lost eight hoppers and returned all but four of the balance in 1966.

Note: Do not mistake the reddish photo of the hopper taken in 1969 in Roanoke as it was a test car left unpainted and the brown/red color is the rust on the car. Stephen

You don't need to wait for the N&WHS to answer. Their archive database is online and open to anyone [http://www.nwhs.org/archivesdb/].
