Im in the position of having too many convertables.  They are cheap and they are everywhere!  I now only buy sedans or hard tops, but I'd like to "put the top up" on a few of my convertables.

Im using a GTO for my guinea pig.  I built a crude frame out of wire and Im stumped on what to use to cover it.  Right now Im trying seran wrap, by gluing with elmers, but i doubt it will hold up to being painted.  We'll see.

Any ideas??

Thanks in advance,

How about the plaster paper that's used for scenery? I think you wouldn't need that well built frame, just use something that will keep its shape until the plaster paper starts to harden, maybe a cardboard template, a thin wire mesh that you could bend with your hands or even a hardtop from another car if the shape works. Just freewheeling here, having never done it but, it's an interesting project. I agree, too many convertibles.

A fun project, but I think my other convertables will just have their tops down.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I think you're close... just need some more structure under the top of it. Try a piece of .005" plastic between the top ribs, and another piece between the front rib and windshield then put the painted tape over that. It should make it look a little less droopy, unless old worn out top is what you're after.

Maybe even just double layer the tape and see if it stiffens up.
