Good morning gentlemen….

I am in need of a solution for a “lens” that will fit a Sunset Models Brass O Scale 2 rail 70 ton diesel…I know MV Products would be the best fit but they are no longer in business…☹️
any suggestions or replacement recommend…I contacted Sunset directly but they have no record or parts for this engine…they have gone fully into the 3 rail direction and anyone associated with Sunset has either died or retired.

any help would be greatly appreciated…

Two options I have used. One is round glass microscope slide cover slips. Find them on the bay. They come in millimeter integer sizes, 6, 7, 8, … etc. May or may not fit your application.

I also make my own out of plastic from wrappers. Measure the size you need, find the closest drill but. Drill a hole is some 1/8” or thicker metal., reverse the bit in a drill press and punch the lenses out.

Homemade plastic lens.

@Mellow Hudson Mike is right.  @Sarah is one of the best, especially for the type of stuff you asked about.  She doesn't post often, but when she does, I pay attention!

Absolutely.  Christine, of CJB Custom Painting and Designs, is too with her paintwork and liveries.  And there are, and have been, many more.

Sorry @Conway57.  Just trying to provide a little gentle encouragement to make sure that we include everyone.

Well I guess the old adage is true…you try to be polite by saying “good morning “…but somehow, somewhere…someone gets offended because you hadn’t mentioned them exactly by name or in today’s society by gender or pronoun…the whole world needs to be inclusive…

I was just asking a question…that’s all…I received an answer…I acknowledge that answer with a “thank you”…if you found my original question offensive…well, what can I tell you…if you find my follow-up responses to be too harsh…I’ll let you fill in the blank(s)_ _Seems the “gentlemen”are more offended than the over looked “ladies” 🤨

Bottom line…let it go…move on…

I have purchased several sizes of hole punches over the years. I have both single hollow punches

as well as disk cutters in a block

I use clear acetate purchased at an art supply store that has a thin protective plastic coating on both sides. When installing I remove the inner coating and press into PSA (pressure sensitive adhesive). Leaving the outer coating on keeps the lens clean of finger prints and any weathering you might want to apply.

I also make a reflector from aluminum rod polished to a mirror finish.

PM me if you want details………

Peter
