I agree, Bluejacket is fabulous just to visit in Searsport. They will supply the nautical bits, but not the stuff to make this a tourist boat...

Wonder what Bluejacket would have to help scratch build a gold dredge?  Guess l better search.

The chain you can find in the craft area of many stores in the jewelry making section. Also look for fine chain necklaces in the dollar stores. In Walmart you can also find very fine wire cable in the same jewelry making section that when coiled and painted makes a very good looking rope for the decks.

The wire rope comes in gold and silver, but also bronze and black if you catch the right Wal-mart.
If you know anyone who crochets lace, they always have bits and pieces of #10 or #5 thread around, aka hemp rope. If all they happen to have is white, a scrawl of Sharpie followed by a few drops of alcohol will dye it anywhere between brand new Manila and “been on deck a while.“ Coffee or tea will do the same job, but a lot of people don’t like to use any food item for fear of critters.
