Can someone tell me if this will run with DCS? MTH Premier Amtrak EMD F40PH Diesel W/Proto Sound & Proto Smoke #20-2147LP O

By the number it would appear to be Protosound, so it would be a conventional engine that you could run on a variable channel.
So for it to run True DCS I would have to up grade it?
that engine was made 3 years before proto2 and dcs was available.-Jim
Mike,
So for it to run True DCS I would have to up grade it?
Yes, that's correct.

Yes that would be the only way to be able to run under full DCS.
Thank you all for the answers, Now all I have to do is think if its the right price and then to up grade!
Mike,
If you do not want to Upgrade it ,run it using the TR Mode, via your DCS Hand Held Remote Control, it will run smoother than you ever remember it running.

Thanks for the information Dave, I am just trying to get all my engines and the ones I buy to run DCS.
Mike,
I can fully understand why you want it to run full DCS, but until you do you can still use the DCS to run it via the Hand Held Remote control as a Conventional! Just a different way to use the DCS!

Thanks Dave, I just might have to do that. I still have a couple months before I start my new train room, as in building a new addition off the back of my garage for a layout!
I had DCS for months before getting a DCS loco. Was great to run conventional via walk around control rather than being ties to a control panel. Eventually, I converted every loco I could to DCS.
Mike & RJR,
IMO eventually upgrading all your P1 to P2/P3 is the only way to fly!

I never had any ps1. 10 years ago I converted everything to ps2.
Thanks for all the information guys, I was running DCC and wasn't sure about DCS.
