I have been having great fun and some frustration designing a new layout for my NJ basement.  Because I will not take down my 12 x 30 tinplate layout I have some space limitations that I must deal with.  I have a space 9 x 34 although one section must narrow to 7 feet so that I have access to the unfinished part of the basement where the furnace and hot water heater are located. I also wanted one loop with a minimum curve of 0-63. I wanted space for a good sized town, a place for a big trestle bridge and a double ended yard.   I am refining two different plans.  On is a walk in design that is 37 ft long as the track goes through a wall.  Here I had to give up the double ended yard.  The second design is an island with space to walk around nearly the entire layout. Right now I am trying to plan the scenic treatments and it is a slow process.  Any suggestions welcome

I agree.  I have finally focused on the first one.  Having no shame I stole a Herb Lindsay track arrangement for inside the lower return loop and it all makes sense now.  Trains start in one town and run to the second town.  All I have to consider now is whether to move the middle and lower main line tracks together or leave them separated.
