I have a 13x16 ft basement layout. No windows so to speak by the layout. I have alot of lighted buildings and alot of "Mr. Christmas World's Fair" lighted fair rides. They are great. It is normally lighted with standard shop lights, the problem comes when I turn off the basement lights, it is just to dard. Sure the buildings can be seen as can the World's Fair rides as they are lighted, but only the lighted windows show on the buildings and the rest of the layout is in total darknes at a passing train goes almst unnoticed except the engines head lights and any coach lights. I know I cannot dim the shop lights as the are only on/off. I bought three sets of track lighitng( nine lights) that use a standard max of 65 watts. Using standard soft white bulbs, the track is very poorly lit. Looks quite good at night though with all the other basement lights out. They have a dim twilight effect that still shows most building exteriors very well, and their lights show well also, plus the trains are well noticed.

All's well, but the layout is still poorly lit at other times. I tried halogen blubs, ok light, but more spot like. Any ideas what can give a better overall light and can be dimmed?

Thanks,Bill
