I don't know what type of bulb I need or where to find it. I have a Lionel #2156 station platform with no bulbs. This is a red roof, green base model.  The bulbs fit into both sides of the vertical struts that run from the platform to the roof. There seems to be several different models. I know that the replacement bulbs should be 6-8 volts. Can someone help me find replacements? These bulbs seem to be pushed in, instead of screwed in.

Thanks.

Lionel made a version of that platform that was not illuminated. Are you certain about the model number?

If it is an illuminated station that uses 6 volt bulbs, the should be a spring clip on each of the two screws that attach the end posts, and a metal bar running between the end posts, just underneath the roof. (I do not see the bar in the picture of the underside of your roof)

If it has these things, it should take a pair of #50, 6 volt, screw based bulbs.

MPC did sell some of their station platforms with #1442 bulbs. The story behind that says they had lots of them sitting around their warehouse, so they used them in the station. I do not know how it was wired. #1442 is an 18 volt, pear shaped bulb.

Athayer,

I also recommend using the LED's, not due to any melting because I do believe you own the old Tin Plate Platform version, but to help keep the voltage draw down, and the subdued lighting on your train layout will look real cool.

The 12V DC Bayonet LED bulb should work perfect, and if Lionel happened to put the screw in type in that Particular Tin Plate Platform, use the 12V DC Screw in type LED, one of these two LED's should get the job done for you perfectly.   If you happen to have 022 or 711/022 Switches & Controllers they also work perfectly in them.  I purchased these LED's from Scotts Odds & Ends long ago, Train Electrics may have them now.  If you happen to like the colored LED bulbs Town & Country Hobby on the NET, has a large inventory of all different types and Voltages for us O Gauge train people.  They will also deliver right to your door.

You may be right that this is not an illuminated station platform. Here are more pictures of the bottom of the base. It looks like the information there is in case one would want to illuminate it.

That cast-in information goes back to the creation of the mold for the 156 station, prior to World War II.
Based on the fact that there are no terminal clips on the bottom, and no power bar across the top (just under the roof), I'd say you have a non-illuminated one. It has a different stock number, but I do not know it off the top of my head.

The lamp sockets are there, they are part of the end post castings. They look like they may not be threaded.

It's MPC 6-2156. maybe it came in two versions, illuminated and non-illuminated.

if you take off the roof, you may see a hole for a set screw to hold the socket. A wire goes across connecting the two.

Then the fahnstock clip goes on the bottom where there are just push on thingys.

Can't easily find MPC parts lists. You could make it illuminated if you could get the part numbers.

center post is one lead and the end posts are the other, probably U or common.

thank you everyone.

See my previous post. You can use the posts to supply your own lights. Hot up the center and common on the ends. Connect under the roof. I know you can the clips at a dealer that does repairs for the bottom. Don't drill any holes in it.
