Todd Architectural Models is excited to announce the second in a series of York, Pennsylvania historic buildings to be released at the October York TCA Eastern Division Meet. The Laurel Rex Fire Station was built in 1877-1878 in the Italianate style and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. Located at 49-51 South Duke Street at the corner with East King Street, the 48’ by 96’ building is the perfect choice to add to the York Series that started with the D.F. Stauffer Biscuit Co. building in 2018.

The model will feature laser scored and cut elevation, window and door elements, built-up styrene cornice details and applied quoins that are a key feature of the station’s architecture. The South Duke Street engine bay entrance will be the primary elevation that is modeled and will be 12” wide. The project will be offered in three formats: a 1” deep shadowbox, a 12” deep (half-depth) building and a 24” deep (complete-depth) building. The tower will stand approximately 18” high. All versions will come lit.

The prerelease pricing will be as follows:

1” deep shadowbox: $260.00

12” deep building: $650.00

24” deep building: $950.00

We offer two pricing options: 1. You may pay 50% of the model fee by April 30, 2019 and the balance at the release date of October 17, 2019. Models will be available for pickup at York or shipment after our return to the shop from the October Meet. 2. You may pay the order in full by April 30, 2019, and receive a 10% discount off of the model fee. Again, models will be available for pickup at York or shipment after our return to the shop from the October Meet.

You may email or call the shop directly to place your order.

Being local to York and being a fireman myself that has actually staffed this station, my question is, what year will it be modeled in? The reason im asking is quite a few years back when the york city fire department started replacing its aging apparatus fleet, the left front door had to be changed and the door height was raised to get the more modern ladder truck in the building due to its increased in height. So maybe as an option, depending upon who may be purchasing the model, offer a "door modification" panel/kit, to have the correct door height and design in place....just a suggestion. I so want one of these for my layout and my LHS would love one as well for their O scale layout.

I have spoken with the York Historical Society with respect to accessing architectural plans and photographs. I would very much like to speak with the current chief about the project and the various "versions" of the station. I have noticed variations in the building in different pictures. I now understand why the "Rex" door panel is different.  So far we have five shadowboxes and two full buildings on order. Please reach out to directly, if you would, to get me in touch with the correct person!
