Rough prototype. The pipes are steel and give the car enough weight. I need to make a plate like Paul's to hold the pad more evenly across all three rails.

I soak the pad with 70% isopropyl alcohol. I stop and re-load it every couple of laps.

Here is one I made out of a MTH Test Weight Car.

I have also made a pad out of cloth with a heavy felt backing.  Either one does the job.
