I recently purchased the MTH 153 Operating Signal Block 11-90115. I don't want to use the contactor that comes with it. I hooked it up to my insulated track portion and this is the best results so far. It stays unlit until train passes the insulated section and turns green until it leaves the section which is fine but I guess I want it to stay red until it hits the section. I tried ever way to wire it but to no avail. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

The contactor provides the useful feature of applying power to one light OR the other light.  That gets you red OR green.  If you use just the insulated section method, you apply power to one light OR no light. 

 

The solution for the insulated section method is to install a relay module which restores the ability to power one light OR the other light.  These are available from several sources and run $10-$20.  If you can solder and assemble a handful of electronic components the cost would be around $5.
