I can give a broad answer, having done dozens.

Most difficult part is pulling the old axle gear, pressing on the new one, and accurately re-quartering.  You need a quartering jig.  I suspect you can search OGR back issues; I am sure I did an article or two in the early 1990s.

Easiest part is installing the motor.  I use aircraft safety wire and a piece of old inner tube.  I will look in to posting a photo or two when I wake up.
