I got a Bowser brill car off the bay, seller said didn't work,   I got it, and the reason it don't work is because it is wired for overhead wires.  Who ever did it put a lot of work into it, he has a toggle reverse switch in the floor for changing directions.  The switch has issues and I am thinking of replacing it.  I would like to know the proper way of wiring it....

Thanks,  Marty

You only need a double pole double throw switch and connect it to either the field or the armature assuming both are wired. Wire the switch as a reversing switch. Two wires from the power to the center contacts, two wires to the armature or field from one end of the switch. Then cross wire the two corner contacts.

M=either the armature or field, not both.

This assumes its not an induction motor with a start and run winding. Rare in a motor this small.

Martin,  the diagram I posted did not take into account that what you have might be a series connected AC motor. Lionel Pullmors are series connected. I didn't realize that Bowser's may also be series connected (ie armature and field are connected in series).

Follow the thread Mitch posted and follow his last post in the other thread.

The diagram I posted will also work but current draw will be significantly greater.
