A quick post to show what I've been up to. My Spring plantings have all about bloomed out and the weeds are starting to take over. I've thought about giving this space in front of my home a little garden railroad treatment. If I go ahead with this project, it probably won't be completed until next Spring. This plan uses O-54 and will feature a waterfall and small pond.

Very interesting as I am always intrigued by Garden trains in general and the aspect of running "O" outside.
Hope you give updates on the progress of your layout over the next 10 months or so.
I like the idea and the design, Stewart, but I'd go with O-72 or larger if the space permits. Atlas goes all the way up to O-108 in sectional. You might want to check out Ron Karlsson's YouTube video on his outdoor layout for roadbed ideas.
one design point you might want to reconsider, using O54 in a climbing loop, you only have ~14 feet before the tracks cross yielding a grade in the 4-5% range which is quite aggressive for an outdoor layout.

I'd love to use a larger curve, but the area measures 64" deep.

I've been kicking around some other track plan ideas that I may post, but this is the one I keep coming back to. I'll have to do a test build to see if the grade is acceptable.
