I stopped in a hobby shop today and this spine car set was available.
The owner said it was from MTH, but did not come with a purple box. It did come with a brown shipping box with a 5 car insert set and bubble wrap packing.
We couldn't ID this set as anything catalogged by MTH at any time.
All that was known about it, is that it's new from MTH, it's new enough to have the airhose/hidden tab couplers, and it has a 40' Hanjin container, 48' BNSF and BN America containers, a 45' APL container and 2 20' CSX containers... No trailers.
The oddest part is that they look incomplete.... They have no car numbers (TTAX _______).
They weren't marked as production samples, but I think this might be what they are. If not, then it seems like some sort of hodge podge set.
Anyone have any ideas?

It looks like a mix and match of stacks from 20-95036 spine set with a couple of 48's (SF,UP) substituted for the NS and BN trailers.  Was there an ISO Tank- Santa Fe to the right of the CSX (outside the photo right edge)?  The two 20' CSX & ISO SF were end spines on the 20-95036.

Plus the BN 48' may have come from the 20-95035 spine set

Cheers

how you can tell MTH vs. K-line:

K-line:

Earlier Symington Wayne plastic trucks or later die cast bettendorf trucks

Movable 5th wheel trailer hitch

Metal grab rails

metal brake wheel and stantions

MTH:

Plastic bodies

NON moavable hitch [either raised or lowered]

only 2 sets made - both do NOT have the air hose detail on coupler trucks

correct die cast roller bearing sprung trucks

came with BOth containers and 48' Trailers

Sounds like a hodge podge set becasue production would have TTAX markings on them
